To be included in the open GLAM survey, you have to go open.
If your organisation is considering the move to open, the GLAM-E Lab has a portfolio of support, including a Low-Cost Open GLAM Toolkit, to help you get started.
Step 1. Start by reading “Go Open With GLAM-E,” our onboarding document that introduces you to the GLAM-E Lab method of building an open access programme. It will give you a clearer picture of what open means in practice for you, your institution, your collections, and your community.
Step 2. You can then use the “Internal Open Access Policies” document to identify works in your collection that may be good candidates for your open access programme.
Step 3. From there, we have a number of other resources for support depending on your level of need, including a Copyright Clearance Handbook for Public Domain Publication of Digital Collections, which guides you through the process of clearing copyright with the goal of assigning the CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication when it is appropriate and lawful to do so. In our Tools section of the website, you’ll also find support on risk management, preparing the data, and publishing collections on free platforms, like Wikimedia Commons, as well as a template of a model open access policy that you can use to update your organisation’s public-facing policy on the website.
Step 4. After you’ve completed Steps 1-3, reach out to let us know that you’ve made the move to open using our Google Form or by contacting Andrea and Douglas via email at survey@glamelab.org.
